Japan's Militarism Resurfaces
South Korea, North Korea and China Should Unite to Counter Japan
Lee Wha Rang, July 27, 1997
It seems that Japan's militarism has not changed an iota since WWII. Ironically, and once again, some US politicians are backing the Japanese militarists.
One may recall that in September 1905, Pres. Roosevelt signed the Treaty of Portsmouth
which gave Japan 'interests' in Korea and southern Manchuria in return for Japan's
'recognition' of American interests in the Philippines. In July 1996, Pres. Clinton
signed "Japan-

vociferous and aggressive in recent months. Japan has been rearming during the past

Japan has started placing claims on a number of Korean and Chinese islands. In addition, she has laid claim to offshore sea territories of China and Korea. Japanese gunboats have seized Korean and Chinese fishermen from waters surrounding the islands. Japanese maritime police seized a N Korean freighter last month on a false charge of drug trafficking.

Japan has some 500,000 tons of rotting rice unfit for Japanese (or animal) consumption. North Koreans would not mind getting the rice, but Japan would rather dump the rice into the ocean than help feed the starving people of Korea. Japan has benefited greatly from the Korean War. In fact, Japan has been making money from turmoil's in Korea since the turn of the century. The more troubles in Korea, the more money to be made for Japan.
Japan has been active in promoting military conflicts in Korea since WWII. Contrary
to the Korean "history" written by many S Korean and Japanese "scholars", Japanese
militarists did not depart from Korea at the end of WWII. The US Military Government

Japanese militarists openly agitated for and covertly participated in the Korean War. Japanese troops, sailors, engineers and linguists were in Korea fighting the Communists. The Japanese Navy and Merchant Marine were reconstituted to provide naval and marine transport to the US forces. Massive construction projects were initiated to install telecommunications, to expand control and command facilities including a huge CIA operations center near Tokyo and other parts of Japan.

The Japanese Navy played a key role in the planning
and execution of MacArthur's Inchon landing. In a recent article, "Korean War and
position of Japan", Prof. EijiTakemae of Keijai University (Tokyo) states that Japan
mobilized 120 ships and 1,300 crewmen of the Tojai Kisen Shipping Company to ferry
the invading troops. Over 50 Japanese warships and 30,000 soldiers participated in
the Inchon Landing.

Many of the 1,500 American soldiers captured in the Philippines were taken to Mukden, Manchuria. Captured Americans, along with several hundred British and Australian soldiers, were met in Mukden on Nov. 11, 1942, by a team of Japanese medical personnel wearing masks. They sprayed liquid into the prisoners' faces and gave them injections.
By the end of the winter, about 250 Americans had died, and their bodies were stacked
like cordwood. When spring came, the surviving prisoners were ordered to work with
a Japanese medical team, picking up the half-
Gen. MacArthur's CIC agents, under Col. Philip Bethune, aggressively protected Lt. Gen. Shiro Ishii, Lt. Col. Ryoichi Naito and others. Naito founded Green Cross, one of Japan's top pharmaceutical companies. Why did MacArthur coddle these war criminals w ho murdered so many Americans who served under him in the Philippines? The great general is dead and cannot answer this question himself but perhaps Big Mac saw the Korean War coming as early as in 1945.

Some US politicians welcome a strong military in Japan
as a counterweight against the rising star of China. Japanese rearmament would mean
less competitive Japanese products in World markets and a weaker Japanese economy
(the US military in Japan permits Japan to spend a minuscule fraction of it GNP on
her defense).

The American people should pause and recall the memory of all those American soldiers
and civilians who died in the Pacific, those POW's abandoned and betrayed by their
own government, those American children and women raped by the Japanese. Some impure
elements of the American society may see big bucks to be made in a war in the Far
East and may salivate at the prospect of a "contingency" in the region. But the great
majority of the Americans will not die for the Japanese Emperor. The American people
will not be fooled by any more 'national security' scam concocted by the war-
