A Squaddies Lament

Many times I wonder why!

They were the one’s who had to die

I was the one too scared to live

They were the one’s with more to give

Five of us went out that day

Four great pals were blown away

No warning given, mine fields ahead

A flash, a bang, and four mates dead

I still can’t comprehend just why

I’m still alive ? yet they had to die.
